Even though the times have changed, there are still quite a few among us who stick to tradition and customs. The majority of the younger generation prefers to try new things and experiment in anything and everything. That said there are quite a few among the younger generation of today who are strict romanticists in their choices. They prefer to be traditional and conservative in their choices and share the nostalgia of the older generation who talk of times when everything was romantic and pure. These are the people who go by the age-old rule of conforming to traditional values. They believe that practices that have been in vogue for so many years cannot be simply wiped under the carpet.
Everything has to be traditional and classical for these people. Their weddings and their choices of all things related to their wedding best reflect this trait of theirs. Their cakes especially are of the traditional variety. They prefer classic wedding cakes for their wedding and they believe that modern cakes do not hold any moral or aesthetic value. The history of wedding cakes clearly shows a remarkable transformation in designs and flavors used in the wedding cakes over the years. From the roman wheat wedding cakes to the plum wedding cakes of the seventeenth century to the present three tiered cakes with different flavors, cakes have never been constant in design and taste. So what qualifies a wedding cake as a classic one?
For this we will have to see determine the wedding cakes that have been in use for the longest period of time. This honor has to go to the traditional vanilla and cream white wedding cake. This is truly a classic cake that has been around for a very long time. The fruitcake is also a classic timeless wedding cake as is the carrot cake. The carrot cake though a new innovation as compared to the vanilla and fruit ones has been there long enough to retain its place in the classic cakes segment. These three classic cakes are proof that technology and fast life cannot kill the romanticists in all of us.
